In the last week of October 2013, I was idling on Twitter with pal @jkn. We got to talking about life, coffee, dogs, and a project to write and record a whole album in a month. I mean, a whole ALBUM in a MONTH. Holy hell-crackers did that sound like an interesting proposition, and with right speed did I jump verily on that shizzle and I never looked back. So basically, this is all John's fault, and you should probably follow him on twitter and tell him so.
Spoiler alert: I didn't quite make the challenge! Ugh, I know, right? Some people are just the worst. These are demos made public, to share with the #nasoalmo crew and friends and well-wishers. So... they're not mixed. They're not mastered. In some cases, they're just impressions and sketches of a riff that will be a finished piece very soon.
I promise, you'll be the first to know when you can download the finished article. Have patience! And call your mother once in a while.
_TRIGGER, HAPPY: A PORTRAIT OF THE ARTIST AS A PIÑATA_
"Life is like stepping into a boat that is about to sail out to the sea and sink." ~Zen Proverb
2012-2013 has been both a hideous and divine year for me. For each track in this collection, I was thinking of a period of time - a week, a month, a morning - and the experience of that time. Some of the pieces here are representations of how I felt at that time. Some are reflections on how things have changed since. Some are what I choose to remember, instead of how it happened.
Starting these pieces - as lame and unready as they may be - has been so cathartic, I can't be mad I didn't finish quite on time, I can't be disgruntled because work got in the way, or my mixing skills take too long to warm up. I'm just dying to finish these. They've helped put the year to bed.
What surprised me the most and I couldn't have predicted this, was how hopeful these all sound together.
Wouldn't it be nice to think that this last trip around the sun was worth it in the end?
